MONTHLY MAKEUP TALK: MAY 2022

The month of May has been surprisingly pleasant. As it’s the month before my birth month, I tend to take these 31 May days to keep things simple and a bit more lax in preparation for birth-month festivities. We all know the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic has been strong for some time now, and it doesn't seem like anyone is eager to get rid of their minimal makeup no makeup routines. Looks like the clean look is here to stay for a while. Which is perfect for the warmer months coming up. Who wants to be dripping foundation in the scorching sun anyways?

The past month I found myself using products that are on the lighter side, which has been such a joy. I must give my skin a big shout-out for looking the best it ever has allowing me to wear light-coverage makeup so comfortably. Comfort is a key word here. Makeup can be uncomfortable, especially when you wear a lot, or you wear products that don’t sit right with you. Now, with understanding my skin better and having tried an array of products, I found some products that melt into the skin and provide ultimate comfort on the face.

Here are 6 products I used religiously this past month

FENTY SKIN

Flash Nap Instant Revival Priming Eye Gel-Cream

Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen with Niacinamide

Almighty Fenty is at it again, but this time their skincare is getting the spotlight. Eye creams and SPF products are essential in any skincare routine, but they tend to be the most challenging to incorporate for some people. There's a plethora of products out there that not only cost a lot, but also ineffective. I've tried that plethora of products and I've never been satisfied. I was recently gifted some Fenty Skin leftover from my boyfriend's sister in law's PR package. I was ready to be displeased with the products because celebrity skincare is quite gimmicky. To my surprise, the products were effective, appealing and comfortable to wear. The eye cream is lightweight and creates a slight tingle to revive and refresh the eye area. This particular eye cream works great for daytime wear as it’ll help wake up your sleepy eyes. SPF can also be tricky as they can leave a white cast, be greasy and cause breakouts. Fenty's SPF in particular is an incredibly comfortable one to wear. It has a very light and smooth texture with a very pleasant scent that isn't too overpowering. There's also a slight pink tint and sheen infused into the into it which allows for a very luminous hydrated glow on the face. Pair it with the Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint and you get the perfect combo for summer.

TOWER 28 BEAUTY

SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation

We are in the era of skin tints and tinted moisturizer and this one from Tower 28 Beauty may just be the holy grail for dewy fresh skin. It's making me very happy to see some prominent individuals in the makeup industry recommend this product. Makeup artist Nam Vo (@namvo on Instagram) recently recommended this on her page to her followers. She is notoriously known for dewy 'dumpling' skin, which is skin that is intensely hydrated giving off a glass, wet-like dewy glow. And this tinted sunscreen does just that and so effortlessly. This is a very light coverage product but it will cover exactly what it needs to and it melts into the skin just right making it feel as if there's nothing on the skin, besides some SPF. I can't praise this product enough and I'm so glad that it's getting the recognition it deserves.

COLOURPOP COSMETICS

Luxe Lip Oil in Clear

Going along with the theme of fresh face makeup leading into summer, lip oils must be mentioned. I tend to turn to a lip oil more often than a gloss because it’ll sit lighter on my lips while offering more hydration for them. The Colourpop Luxe Lip Oil’s are some of my favorites, especially the clear one. A dab of this lip oil on your lips and they instantaneously look plump and healthy.

ICONIC LONDON

Sheer Liquid Blush

Liquid and cream blushes have been the hype for sometime now and it doesn’t seem like that hype is going anywhere anytime soon. Iconic London was one of the first brands to get on the map for their liquid blush. The texture of this blush is one that I haven't been able to find in any other product yet. It has a very liquidy and wet texture making the product apply a bit sheer. While it is sheer, when you build it, the color begins to pop quite intensely. The colors range is beautiful and really suit the glow from within theme Iconic London has because the shades blend really well into different skin tones. I've been reaching for this for years, and a lot more recently, and it's been a dream to wear with the weather warming up.

RITUALS body spray

A relatively new brand in the United States, dutch-born Rituals is slowly making its way into the American beauty market. I am personally a very big fan of Rituals after discovering it through my Dutch boyfriend who actually used to work with the home and body company. You can now find many Ritual products throughout my home ranging from candles, hand creams, soaps, reed diffusers and more. Each collection is a different ritual, which correlates to a different scent. So you can get all their different products in your favorite scent, which I love to do. You know we have to keep things consistent. One of my favorite items from the brand is their hair and body mists, particularly in this Ritual of Jing scent. They offer the mist in a hair and body spray, a pillow and bed spray or a hair, body and bed spray. I usually keep one of each scent handy to freshen up myself or my home. For the warmer months, I find that this body spray is a great refresher throughout the day whenever I'm feeling funky in my sweat.
